Psalm 91 is your weapon. It has traditionally been regarded as a powerful prayer for God’s protection against the Evil One and all manner of evil. It is also prophetic for the times we’re living in now. One of the striking things about this psalm is the specific way it spells out various evils and how relevant it seems to our experience with the global coronavirus pandemic.

“He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence” (v.3). And a few verses later it proclaims that with God’s protection, we will not fear “the pestilence that roams in darkness, nor the devastating plague at noon” (v.6). Verse 10 says, “no evil shall befall you and no plague come near your dwelling.” Pestilence and plague…sound familiar to anyone?

Angels: there is also a strong emphasis on the care of the angels. “For he will give his angels charge of you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone” (vv.11-12). Many have suggested calling upon angelic help and protection during this worldwide crisis. Years ago I wrote a prayer for angelic help which you may download as a prayer card.

I highly recommend making Psalm 91 a part of your daily prayer during these difficult and threatening times, and into the future as well. I have tried to pray this prayer daily for the past 50 years and can testify to its effectiveness! The Lord says: “He shall call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in distress. I will deliver him and glorify him” (v.15).

It’s interesting that from the beginning of this trial, Christians of different denominations have been turning to Psalm 91 for help. Take up your Bible right now and pray it from start to finish. Thanks be to God for this promise of safety, security and protection in His Word!
